On Monday, developer Ninja Theory teased us with news that an announcement would be coming today. As it turns out, that announcement was a definitive release date for their upcoming game, Hellblade Senua’s Sacrifice.
Announced back in 2014, Hellblade is an action game that focuses on the journey and mental state of its protagonist, Senua. Senua is a Celtic warrior who suffers from psychosis. Alone, she must embark on a very personal journey through a hellish landscape created by her own psychotic manifestations.
According to Ninja Theory, their goal with Hellblade was to bring the mid-sized game back by creating an independently developed game with AAA polish. Hellblade Senua’s Sacrifice is scheduled for release on August 8th, 2017. You can get the game for $29.99/€29.99/£24.99 on Steam, GOG, and PlayStation 4.
According to some leaked screenshots, it seems like we could be in store for a Life is Strange prequel in the near future.
The original Life is Strange, developed by Dontnod Entertainment and published by Square Enix, was widely considered a surprise hit in 2015. The game followed the adventures of Max Caulfield, a high school senior who discovers that she has the ability to rewind time. While the original game focused mainly on Max and her relationship with Chloe, it appears that this prequel will instead focus on Chloe and her relationship with Rachel.
The screenshots were found in this gallery that was anonymously uploaded to Imgur. There are nine images altogether, eight screenshots and one piece of branded concept art. You’ll also notice in the screenshots that this is a Chloe who has yet to dye her hair fully blue.
If you remember, Dontnod took to Twitter no too long ago to celebrate Life is Strange selling over 3 million copies and to announce that they would be working on a second Life is Strange game. However, this prequel is not the game they were talking about. This prequel will actually be in the hands of the Denver studio, Deck Nine Games.
Previously known as Idol Minds, this development studio is best known for making games like Cool Boarders 3, Rally Cross 2, and Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal. Two days ago, the team announced that they will be rebranding as Deck Nine to signify their shift toward more narrative-focused games.
If you liked the 2015 surprise hit, Life is Strange, then I have some good news for you.
Today, the developers at Dontnod Entertainment took some time off from working on their upcoming game Vampyr to acknowledge and celebrate Life is Strange selling over 3 million copies. In the tweet below, the devs express their appreciation for their many fans. However, it’s the end of the video that’s interesting.
Near the end of the video, the devs mention that there will be a Life is Strange 2. They also revealed that the new game has been in development since the original game received a boxed version – which happened last year. Unfortunately, they never mentioned a release date for Life is Strange 2.
It’s hard to believe that the next game in the series would be a continuation of the first game since the ending seemed to be pretty conclusive. In fact, it wouldn’t be surprising at all if Life is Strange 2 featured an entirely new cast of characters.
What do you think? Would you be down for a brand new adventure in the Life is Strange Universe, but with different characters?
In less than a month, E3 2017 will kick off. Wasting no time, Nintendo has revealed their plans for the event. Still forgoing the traditional E3 press conference, Nintendo will be doing their now annual Nintendo Spotlight: E3 2017 video presentation. They will also bring back Nintendo Treehouse Live at E3, where presenters will show off upcoming games for the Switch. Last of all, they will be hosting live-streamed tournaments for both Arms and Splatoon 2 from the show floor.
It’s expected that Nintendo will share new details on upcoming games for the Switch, but for now, these are the games we know Nintendo will have at their booth:
ARMS is a brand new IP coming to the Switch. Some have described this brawler as a mix between Rock ’em Sock ’em Robots and Punch-Out!! If you’re dying to try it out for yourself, don’t worry, you’ll be able to get your hands on this game soon. On June 16, right after E3 to be exact.
The Inklings are making their way to the Switch in the sequel to one of the Wii U’s best games, Splatoon. Splatoon 2 takes place two years after the first game and will boast a variety of new weapons, gear, and maps for players to enjoy. Splatoon 2 is scheduled for release on July 21.
Super Mario Odyssey
E3 2017 will have the first playable build of Super Mario Odyssey. The game will be the first sandbox-style Mario game since Super Mario Sunshine. E3 event goers will be the first ones to get to play the new Mario game, the rest of us will just have to wait until the holiday season.
A new trailer for the martial arts focused online role-playing game, Absolver, has released new details and a release date.
As you’ll see in the video, the trailer dives headfirst into the details of the game’s complex combat system. There are three main styles that players can choose from. The Forsaken style focuses on parrying, Khalt style is good for absorbing hits and Windfall style is for nimble fighters who can dodge attacks.
In addition to the combat styles, there are also different stances that your fighter will be able to use. Each stance will open up new move sets which will, in turn, change the flow of how you fight. If you want to know more, check out the video below.
Absolver has a release date of August 29, for PlayStation 4 and PC.
A new collection of early concept art for Mass Effect: Andromeda has popped up online. The gallery comes to us from former Bioware Montreal Lead UI Artist, Eric Bellefeuille. The images Bellefeuille has shared with us shows what the game looked like in the early stages of its five-year development.
The images not only provide interesting insight into what the game could’ve looked like, but it also reveals a few of the team’s earliest ideas that were nixed in the final release.
Some of these ideas included earning gameplay-enhancing bonuses for scanning Remnant glyphs, an omni glove that shows the mission description and your location on the map, and a much different looking Pathfinder quarters with SAM contained in a Zordon-like tube a la Power Rangers.
You’ll also notice that many of the characters have different looks and descriptions. Most notably Peebee’s appearance, Vetra Nyx’s name change, and Cora Harper sporting a different haircut. It’s also interesting to note that in the screenshot below, Cora is listed as an Asari when she is clearly a human.
You can find the rest of Bellefeuille’s Mass Effect: Andromeda artwork on ArtStation.
It’s only been a week since Nintendo made the surprising announcement that they will be discontinuing the production of the NES Classic. Many fans still feel confused and disgruntled by the baffling decision given that the product was still highly desired. Nintendo clarified its decision explaining that the NES mini was never meant to be a permanent product.
The NES Classic, which is a reimagined miniaturized version of the original NES, has been a hard to acquire item since its release in December 2016. Mainly due to Nintendo’s inability to keep up with public demand. Although Nintendo has given up on the nostalgia-inducing system, it may not be all bad news.
Hot off the heels of the discontinuation, Eurogamer reports that Nintendo has plans on releasing a mini SNES console. The new system is scheduled to release at the end of this year, around Christmas, and is already under development.
Unfortunately, it’s very likely Nintendo will make this new microconsole a temporary novelty as well. Here’s to hoping that Nintendo has learned it’s lesson with the NES Classic and will be better prepared to keep the SNES mini in stock while it’s available.
The fastest man in the world is back for another go in the new Injustice 2 trailer.
To freshen up your memory, The Flash fought for Superman’s Earth One regime in Injustice: Gods Among Us, but he was clearly conflicted by his decision and left the team. In this new trailer, we see the scarlet speedster donning his red boots once again, hoping for a chance at redemption.
